Not everyone's impressed with Shane Osborn's new restaurant - some find it overpriced, while others feel the dishes lack innovation - but most are happy with his contemporary British offerings.

Another signature is the Hokkaido cod (HK$398), cooked perfectly and served with butternut squash ravioli and choi sum. Our favourite was the moist roast breast of guinea fowl (HK$398), accompanied by snow peas and bacon.

I ate chef Shane Osborn's food when he was at St Betty in the IFC and wasn't particularly impressed. But his food at Arcane is at another level entirely.

Arcane isn’t mysterious or magical or even fantastic. But the offerings are solid and Osborn does create some fab dishes that are worthy of praise.

Seasonally focused, the carefully curated menu at Arcane is a thoughtful creation of chef Shane Osborn, formerly of St Betty.

The potatoes were super buttery, almost overwhelmingly so when paired with the tuna but the combination made for a yummy mouthful nonetheless.

All in all, I thought there were some real highlights to my meal (gnocchi, mackerel, canneles), and even the low points weren’t really all that low. I’m glad to see that a new restaurant and setting hasn’t really changed chef Osborn’s innate cooking style and palate and I will definitely be back.

Fuck yeah on pay day or fuck yeah if someone else is paying – cause HKD500 is a pretty large fucking bill for a lunch in HK.  However, the price tag isn’t outrageous given the artistic, thoughtful fuck yeah food and the fact that crisp white linen tablecloths don’t wash themselves.

Steamed pink snapper with salsa verde and quinoa was next. Red snapper is quite a popular choice in modern European cuisine but pink snapper.....it's been a while since I last had pink snapper. I thought the texture was very nice but it was a little fishy.
