For those who truly appreciate great omakase meals, Kishoku is a godsend, serving up an immaculate selection of fresh, innovative dishes. For everyone else, it's incredibly overpriced.

But, with prices like these, you’d expect the sushi to shine. It doesn’t. The standouts of the evening are the addictive sea salt ice cream ($80) and the side of preserved bamboo shoots dipped in sesame.

A mid-range omakase meal for two with a couple of bottles of sake will set you back about HK$3,800. It’s not cheap, but beauty never is.

After so many raw dishes, it was lovely to have the contrast of a rich, charred crisp on the tuna. Likewise, our bluefish was so beautifully prepared that it almost pained me to eat it!

All in all, I”m not sure I’m liking Kishoku more than I liked Ta-ke, but it is early days and I haven’t been for dinner yet.

What a find!  Kishoku has definitely been added to my list of “favourite Hong Kong sushiyakis”.  The freshness of the ingredients is evident in every bite, and Chef Ah Do is not afraid to stray outside the strict confines of Japanese cuisine to forge out new flavours combinations.

The lunch set was similarly priced to other sushi restaurants of similar status. The fish selection was great and it was extremely fresh. I would definitely return again.

A couple of misses here and there (found hair in one of my sushi which I returned and our sushi chef kindly made another; too much wasabi in a couple sushis), but overall incredible quality and at a very reasonable price... I have already scheduled my next visit!
