An Nam's high-end Vietnamese is mostly liked by critics, especially the exotic Hue cuisine dishes, but some find it overpriced for what it is.

We liked the food, which, although much more elegantly presented than what we're used to eating in Vietnam, didn't lose the fresh, bright flavours we expect of the cuisine.

An Nam is definitely a pricier option for Vietnamese in Hong Kong but, for once, you won't find yourself drowning everything in nuoc mam sauce to offset the taste of poor quality meat!

A meal for two of five courses with drinks will come to around HK$1,200. Considering that it is one of the few places in town that serves authentic Hu_ cuisine in Vietnam, we think the price is reasonable.

Desserts aside, An Nam's chic decor and rare Vietnamese dishes will definitely have us coming back for more. Come during dinner for a more intimate setting and don't miss their rare Hue-style dishes.

Not much better was the vermicelli with crab meat (below), which again came with a lot of meat, this time Vietnamese sausage. It tasted more Cantonese than Vietnamese, and was oily.

The char-grilled pork belly was super tender and tasted sweet. The pork cake was pretty standard, not too much of a surprise here.
