While opinions are slightly torn on Quemo - some find the experience astounding, others just average - everyone agrees that it's worth a visit for its paella alone.

The "liquid bombons" (HK$58) were a nice mouthful, although you had to eat the dumplings in one bite or risk getting the soft chocolate filling all over your clothes.

A filling meal for two with wine comes to about HK$1,500. While this is not cheap, Quemo offers some of the more authentic Spanish flavours in Hong Kong.

We laughed for our whole meal at Quemo, entertained by the Spanish staff who were alternately efficient, charming, buffoonish—and always hilarious.

Quemo is perfect for family-style meals, so gather all your friends for a night of amazing Spanish fare and dive into the best squid ink paella in town!

Unlike other paella in Hong Kong, Quemo’s version served its rice and toppings (perfectly cooked fresh clams) separately. The end result of the rice was soul satisfying

Try their Grilled Eggplant ($78) served with olive oil and a unique sauce made with tomato and hazel nuts; or the Pregnant Tomato ($68) which is served with a generous dash of finely grated cheese.

With the perfection of the ambience, I certainly hoped that the food could match perfectly with everything, and it certainly did – to a whole new level of experience.

But of what was eaten, some was great and some just didn’t match-up to the vibrancy of its fun staff.

While the Spanish cuisine at Quemo may not be as refined as that at Catalunya, the mouthwatering paellas, a buzzing, convivial atmosphere and friendly prices have made this restaurant a popular weekend haunt amongst the young crowd in Hong Kong.

Even though some of the dishes were below average (bread with tomato), I would go back to Quemo for their presa and to try their dessert.

I highly recommend the El Quim de la Boqueria's fried egg, 5J acorn fed ham with tomato bread, and the crisp and delicious squid ink paella served with a side of perfectly cooked clams and garlic aioli.
