From the Fatty Crab folks comes the city's first Caribbean spot - it's more bar than restaurant, and while most critics love the cocktails, a couple found the food to be slightly inauthentic.

But let's not forget the Tings in this equation: some of the best bar food we've had in Hong Kong. We'd recommend the saltfish accra fritters (HK$70), and the steamed clams (probably the least Caribbean ting on the menu).

There are flashes of authenticity here and there at Rummin’ Tings – goat stew, the insane amount of rum – but overall, it’s your reliable, run-of-the-mill bar dressed up in fun Caribbean gear.

The bar snacks at Rummin’ Tings are exceptionally good: there are nibbles inspired by the cuisines of Trinidad, Jamaica and the various islands dotted around the West Indies.

The Caribbean inspired food is perfect for grazing on over some drinks (the cocktails are strong but delicious!) and it’s a great place to start off a fun night.

Promising much more to come both food and drinks-wise as it ramps up from its starter menu in the weeks to come, Rummin’ Tings is definitely one I'll be frequently frequenting, and I’ve no doubt it’ll be a mainstay on Hong Kong's mid-range foodie table, just like its fat and crabby big sister.

Considering all dishes cost under $120, I was surprised that cocktails are upwards of $100. Yet, regardless, it’s a very cool place to enjoy some tasty Caribbean food and drink in a fun, casual setting to which we will without a doubt be returning!

As you can tell, I was really rather impressed with Rummin’ Tings. Given the lack of Caribbean cuisine in Hong Kong, their menu struck me as new, exciting, different and action-packed, whilst almost all the dishes were real knockouts.

Sticking with seafood, the Maracas Bay Bake & Sole came in little fried bread buns. These fish burgers are conceptually solid but the flavors could be improved and were slightly under-seasoned.
