Sauces and starches are rare. Elements are assembled more than combined, but the results are generally cohesive and often delicious.

Our main course of mackerel was fantastic. The fish was just barely cooked so it was almost raw inside, then topped with very fine slices of lardo di Colonnata and what tasted like pickled daikon and shavings of katsuo (dried bonito).

As per the norm for authentic French cuisine, the portions are a tad slight but we find each dish to be extremely satisfying.

The wonderful service, beautifully presented and deliciously unusual dishes, and minimalistic décor make this restaurant worth returning to.

We can tell that lots of effort went into the thinking of each dish, and although the slightly clueless waitstaff couldn’t answer all of our curious questions, they were still friendly and helpful—even calling the chef out of the kitchen at one point.

The pork was fantastic, its crackling prepared to crunchy perfection and I liked the kick of the harissa paste. The red snapper was lovely too, but its flavours were less punchy.

Serge et Le Phoque might be too eclectic for its own good but there is definitely attitude in its modern French cuisine. Now they just need to figure out exactly what these rebels of gastronomy want to say - and then articulate it just a little better.

But while the food does sound a bit "blabla", once the fork is in your mouth, it's a different story! Pure delight!

Unlike some of the more recent hip openings, Serge et le Phoque provides that great balance where the setting is casual enough that you can go with friends, open a bottle (or three) of wine, maybe even get a bit rowdy; yet the food is also unexpectedly refined and grown-up

It's refreshing that dish after dish hits the spot – one of those meals where the table goes quiet because the food is worth every second of reflection to enjoy, from amuse bouche to mignardise.

The portion sizes might gall some but this casual, modern bistro with its top-notch, progressive dishes that push-n-pull the palate in all kinds of fun directions appeals to me.

The food, however, while beautifully constructed and presented, was taste-wise slightly uninspiring. Hopefully the kitchen can more effectively translate their brilliant ideas into gorgeous flavours in the future!

While this may not be an ideal venue for say, a grand birthday celebration or to propose to the love of your life, this is perfect if you are looking for something nice and cozy, something of a no-brainer.

Who’s having the meat?? But seriously, loved the tiny, fucking gorgeous food but at those prices, every thing’s gotta work together and a French accent ain’t going to excuse all those service fuck ups.  So.  Fuck yeah if someone else is paying. If not, a polite fuck no.  Merci.

Looking at my neighbors' lamb loin, I thought mine was a tad undercooked but there's no denying how soft and tender it tasted (but it could have been better).

It was evident that the chef has placed his emphasis on the ingredients, to maintain its originality and simplicity but played well at mixing seemingly irrelevant ingredients together.
